Six on Saturday. Lovely leaves.

I seem to stake a lot about blooms on this blog but I am also a fan of   leaf so I thought I would join in with Six on Saturday to write about some of my current darling .

I will start with Nandina domestica , experience as ‘ The Heavenly Bamboo ’ . It is not actually a bamboo at all and as to whether it is celestial , a   heathen like me is not in a locating to say . The ordinaryNandina domesticais quite pretty but nothing singular .

My latest love is a unexampled red- leaved one call ‘ Blush Pink ’ . It is a sport of ‘ Fire Power ’ . It starts out pink in spring and then instead of move around green it becomes redder as the season progresses . It is summary , so is handy in the garden or a slew .

I am a collector of onetime gardening Koran and one of my favourite origin for enchanting selective information about plants is the garden historiographer , Alice M. Coats ( 1905 - 1978 )   In her Word , Garden Shrubs and Their Historiesshe tell howNandina domesticacomes from China and Japan . I have it off the story of   this shrub being planted outside the room access of every house in Japan so that if anyone has a incubus they could kill out and secernate the industrial plant   so that no harm would total to them . on the face of it in Japan it is   also considered   excellent for toothpick , so a handy industrial plant . Mine are rather a farsighted way of life down the garden , so not ideally put   for discussing my nightmares with them . Or for toothpick .

Anyway , I sidetrack and you might well think that I have used up three of my Six on Saturday and taken up too much of your time with stories about toothpick , but with my common sleight of hand I enumerate these three as one : Nandina domestica .

My next plant is a unearthly perennial with endearing , flossy leafage . I am likely pushing my luck showing this as quite a few of you were appalled by my weird green climb , Rosa viridiflorarecently and this is another distortion . It is calledTagetes lemmonii‘Martin ’s Mutant ’ .   It appear as a mutant side shoot in California .

I have a go at it it with an airyPanicum virgatum‘Heavy Metal ’ behind it .

I have n’t tried   yet , but I think it would be nifty for flower arranging .   It uprise up to a metre in a long season and has the spicyTagetesscent . I do n’t know whether it ever blooms , mine has n’t and if it did I would trim them off , I love it as a foliage works . It is a cutter perennial so I have taken cuttings .

I wish plants with shameful leaf so I am a rooter of the neat littleCoprosma‘Karo ’s Red ’ . It is not actually red-faced at all ; the shiny , little leave-taking are green turning most black . ApparentlyCoprosmais interrelate to the burnt umber industrial plant . It come from New Zealand and is not very hardy but I like to live on perilously .   To be good , I have already lostCoprosma‘Tequila Sunrise ’ , but you have it off the old chestnut ; do n’t conceive you ca n’t grow it until you have drink down it three times .

My other black shrub has filigree jet black leafage and as you’re able to see voluptuous berry . It is an elder , Sambucus nigra‘Black Lace ’ . I turn it withPersicaria amplexicaulisand behind it are some pink asters which you ca n’t see in the photograph .

As if this was n’t enough of a party trick , sky blue flower seem in the mettle of each little potato .

You are suppose to commit off the sure-enough chocolate-brown leaves to keep this plant looking sound , which is easier said than done . Each leaf come fit out with vicious spines , I suppose to deter any give llama in its aboriginal home , Chile . I once tried to disunite an   overgrown plant and I carried the scars for calendar week . These plants necessitate to be kept dry so are best in gravelly grease . I lately saw them growing in the bole of beat tree ferns at the   Henstead Exotic Garden in Norfolk . I think I might give this a try .

I will polish off with a gorgeous tree which I do n’t believe I have demonstrate before and I ca n’t think why . It is a small tree diagram , Koelreuteria paniculata‘Coral Sunset ’ . In fountain its leaves come out a startling corally salmon color .

Now in September the leaves are green but still keep some of their peachy colour and the stems hold their lovely deep coral gloss . Next calendar month it will go out in a glare of coloring material and I will show it to you again .

So there we have it , this week I am joiningThe Propagatorwith my six leafy transport for his pop meme , Six on Saturday . Why do n’t you join the party . Very before long I will post my top ten bloom for September . My mail service are like buses , foresightful gaps then they come all at once .

skillful collection ! I inherited a server of Nandina domestica with the garden but none have the interesting coloration of your ‘ Plum Passion ’ or ‘ Blush Pink ’ ( and all are disadvantageously in need of a good pruning ) . I ’ve planted quite a few Coprosmas but , while they ’re unfearing here , I find most do n’t retain their vividness in the retentive - term , which is very annoying – ‘ Plum Hussey ’ seems to be the sole exception . That bromeliad is utterly new to me and you could bet I ’ll be on the looking - out for it .
