One of the most useful constituent weed killer is n’t a chemical substance at all …

Or , in the typeface of our fall garden , “ woven landscape material , ” which serves the same chore as a tarp of belt down smoke with a few extra benefits :

Woven nursery textile is superior to using a tarpaulin , as it :

Using charge card in the garden is n’t my favourite , but since I already have some excess woven landscape fabric from my nursery patronage , it ’s very hard to resist using it to vote down widow’s weeds .

When you fan out it out , just overlap it a number at the edge , then hammer in landscape staples to pin it down . If you run out of those , just use old boards , rocks , bricks and whatever other random dust you have to keep it from blowing out .

Some people use silage tarpaulin to obliterate off weeds ; however , they are large , heavy , and not uncommitted in my area .

There ’s also a benefit to hold water pass through into the ground , which you do n’t get from silage tarpaulin . As it rain on top of woven nursery material , the water passes right through and wet the weeds and , more importantly , their germ , causing organic topic to decompose down nicely while also inducing germination of the weed seeds , which , after sprouting beneath the framework , subsequently die from want of sunlight . Win win win !

This is just one method acting you may use to defeat weeds . John Moody covers many more in his bookWinning the War on Weeds , which is well - worth interpretation .

We ’re not the biggest fans of charge card , but hey : this summertime thing got out of controller , plus my weed torch got run over . It work great , too , so we ’re roll with it . You could lasagna garden instead , but this does not require get a crew of mulch and cardboard to sour .

A final note : Most “ landscape fabric ” or weed block at the big box memory are totally worthless . Spend the money and get the Dewitt interpretation . We wasted money on the other junk in the past tense and wo n’t make the same mistake again .
