Harvesting Lilac Flowers
Lilac flowers do n’t last long , so if you want to make something with them you have to be prepared ! They make tasty infused honey , and it ’s a super easy way to apply them during their little bloom meter .
Since most lilac shrub are crop in grand and gardens , some precaution ask to be take in when harvesting . If you have your own lilac then you should know what has or has not been sprayed on them .
Do n’t employ them if they ’ve been spray with any pesticides or herbicides . If you are gathering lilac from a neighbor ’s grounds , be certain to get permission first and find out if they have been sprayed with anything before using .

It ’s always nice to offer some of what you are making if you are taking flowers from someone else ’s yard . I love that these flower always bloom right before Mother ’s Clarence Day , too ; this beloved is perfect for giving !
When you are harvest lilac flowers , be trusted to clean the freshest look ones that have n’t start to turn browned yet . Four or five heavy flower clusters is all that you require for this recipe .

How to Make Lilac Infused Honey
Making aninfused honeyis so simple and is the thoroughgoing way to use edible prime like lilacs .
If you do n’t have lilac you’re able to usewild violetsorviolas , calendula , forsythia , orlavender flowersto make an infused honey . They all taste amazing !
First cut the lilac flowers off the stem ( I find oneself using pair of scissors to be easiest ) and into a pint sizing James Neville Mason jar .

This goes pretty quickly with lilacs as they are quite big and tough compared to other small and more delicate flower like elderflowers ( see my recipe forelderflower cordial ) .
Once the jar is full of lilac flowers , pour inraw honeyto completely embrace the blossoms .
The beloved will adjudicate for a fleck and it might take a while for it to make its way to the bottom of the jar . As it does , self-aggrandizing bubble will slowly come up to the airfoil of the dearest .

permit it sit for a bit , then you will probably want to top it off with a bit more beloved to cut across the blossoms .
After a bit the lilac flowers will inescapably swim to the top of the dear , and that ’s hunky-dory . This is when it is at its prettiest !
As the hours go by the flowers will shrink and become a modest mass of flowers at the top of the jar .

The lilac love will store for a long clip , at least several month , in the pantry .

you’re able to make this dear into a lilac sirup by combining it with some lilac flower tea . I usually wish to do about 2/3 beloved to 1/3 tea when making a sirup like this , but it depends on how thick you want the sirup to be . The syrup will need to be observe in the fridge and will last 1 - 2 week .
Another heavy estimate is to make a lilac beloved butter . Simply mix some of the impregnate honey with softened butter and you have yourself an amazing spread !
