Working with the constraints of a site
Today we ’re off to Canada to inflict Holly Longstaff ’s garden in West Vancouver , British Columbia .
My husband and I started our gardens from simoleons after build up our new star sign a few years ago . It ’s a beautiful positioning but very thought-provoking because of the usurious aspect and country of deepshade . We have learned over fourth dimension not to crusade the natural machine characteristic of each particular field . Our flowering works have also reap the welfare of bee - know plants we shew all over our property , such as California lilac ( Ceanothusspecies and loan-blend ) and different potpourri of lavender ( Lavandulaspecies and cross ) . Our yard is buzzing with bees all summer long !
The unconscionable backyard has unbelievable view and lushly plant borders around the lawn . Petunias bloom in the foreground .

Another view of the backyard shows how steeply it drop off . A dense California lilac hedgerow surrounds the firepit surface area .
The back garden at sunset , with thepetuniasechoing the warm colors of the sky .
One of our bee garden with a hedging of roses in the background around the lanai . Much of our backyard had to be levy up and handle withretaining wallsto make the land more working .

Pulmonaria‘Dark Vader ’ ( Zones 3–8 ) among a collection of fern . We also placed a few rocks here and there for dividing line .
More of the subtlety garden with lushferns .
The massive Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree that are responsible for for all that shade !

One of our hydrangeas sits among bursts of halcyon Nipponese forest grass(Hakonechloamacra‘Aureola ’ , Zones 5–9 ) in front of another retaining paries on the side of the property .
We particularly wish the two well-chosen yew trees(Taxussp . Zones 4–7 ) my husband plant high up on a rock that are thriving alongside the ferns in this photo . Having a great deal of large rocky features military group you to take chance and be a little creative .
