BGS over atGab.aishared a post with me last hebdomad on the chance of surviving an EMP or other even that destroys the power grid .

Withnukes potentially in orbit already , plus a sun that isgiven to occasional violent outburst , the chances of survival of the fittest seem dark for many of us – peculiarly in the developed world .

“ Any thinking person would have to take on that indeed there would be great expiration of life if electricity ( our life blood ) were to vanish .

Why would there be such great loss of life ? Because our innovative order has become 100 % reliant upon it . Most all of our base is dependent on electrical energy for it to work . It is a bully challenge to arrive up with a listing of substructure - related thing that do not in some fashion depend upon a source of electrical energy .

How long would it take before a significant number of people begin to die off ?

I think that it would set about sooner than most people may reckon …

I have written about this scenario a number of times over the years and I really have not modify my view too much on this ( except one ) . I have always felt that if the lights went out in America ( grid - down ) , it is my opinion that in the end 70 % – 90 % would not survive .

One major viewpoint that I ’ve adjusted is how long this would take to pass ( the 70 % – 90 % ) . When I first theorize this years ago , I felt that an close together one year time skeleton would be want to at last attain those issue . I believe that this thinking was incorrect . It would be much sooner than that .

Given the deficiency of drinking H2O after the pumps stop working and hold tanks drain ,

hand that most people have less than one workweek ’s worth of food at home ,

give that the majority of people live in urban area ,

I feel that these facts alone will seal their fate within one to three months . One month for many , and certainly within three months for most . There merely will not be enough nutrient usable within our just - in - time organisation and this will immediately begin the timeline to starvation . The want of drinking water will bring about end - of - animation even sooner . ”

Having a few gallons of gas for your source is n’t good enough . If you live in the metropolis , you are at jeopardy . If your well runs on an galvanising ticker , you are at jeopardy .

Back in the states we build backup system . Roots in the ground , class - round , and bucket of bean plant and Sir Tim Rice in the buttery . Canned chili , redundant salt , ammo , backup rifle , extra first aid supplies .

It ’s prudent to get some of these things now . And to have copies of important book in your survival of the fittest subroutine library .

Of course , I ’m rather fond toGrow or Die : The Good Guide to Survival Gardening , but I would also want to have a lot of other good reference books on food conservation , foraging , etc .

And MREs .
