Underneath we present a mere taste of what this wondrous genus has in store for gardeners .
All the carnation and garden pink varieties exhibit the classic greyish - bluish - green leaf that is such a well - know dimension of these two specie ’ varieties .
All the carnation and garden pink varieties are evergreen perennial while the two Sweet William varieties are biennials .
1)D.‘Leon Tautz’
A tall border gillyflower that can reach 75 centimetre . It has a shaggy-coated habit .
It flowers only during part of the summer but no matter how abbreviated the flowering season may be , the brilliant and sensational bloom , up to 6 cm in diameter , makes up for it .
It has a pure white terra firma with vivid violet - ruby flecks , splashes and edging .

3)D.‘Chesswood Margaret Alison’
Another tallish border Carnation that bloom during summer .
Its foliage has a very blueish tone . The double flowers are large at about 7 centimeter and are a singular cherry red rose pink , call it ‘ Slate Rose . ’
It possess a characteristic that Dianthus are famed for : a juicy aroma .
The flowers have a substantial garlic clove - comparable olfactory property .
4)D.‘Mambo’
A perpetually flowering variety that is mature year - round under glass for floriculture and exhibition .
This shaggy variety show attains a height and spread of over 1 m.
The large , fully double flowers are in gorgeous tone of orangeish - yellow with the colouration being lightly gradate .
5)D.‘Pixie Star’
A dwarf variety at only about 20 cm with a similar spreading .
The foliage has an obvious blueish tinge .

The small single flowers are most charming ; they are candy pinkish with a lip rouge blood-red key ringing .
6)D.‘Dainty Dame’
Another dwarf variety at only about 25 centimeter with a like spreading .
The little single flowers are pure white with a very contrasty maroon central closed chain .
These cheerful flower have a suitably strong scent that carries a hint of spice .
7)D.‘Pinball Wizard’
A mid - height form that reaches around 40 centimeter . It has a bushy riding habit .
Blooming during the summer , its double heyday are of the palest pink with flecking and feathering of a vivid garden pink .
These comparatively refined and elegant Pinks have a gently spicy scent .
8)D.‘Rhian’s Choice’
This miscellany grows to about 30 centimetre and has a bushy habit .
Even by Dianthus standards , this diverseness ’s foliation is markedly blueish - grey .
The double flower are 5 - 5.5 centimeter in width , and bloom during summertime .
