Blooms at the end of the season

Today we ’re visiting with Robin Sams , who has been garden on this attribute in northeast North Carolina for 10 years .

I constitute these cleomes(Cleome hassleriana , annual ) andzinnias(Zinnia elegans , annual ) from germ after my many Narcissus pseudonarcissus finished dying back . I trust they reseed next year.(Note : To encourage annuals toself - sow , bound the amount of mulch you use in areas where you ’d like them to germ until the seedlings are up and growing . )

A friend have me thisswamp sunflower(Helianthus angustifolius , Zones 5–9 ) , a aboriginal perennial .

Encoreazaleas(Rhododendronhybrid , Encore group , Zones 7–10 ) bloom again in the fall .

honest-to-goodness pines , nandina(Nandinadomestica , Zones 6–9),hydrangeas , azaleas , and more .

Winterberry(Ilexverticillata , Zones 3–9 ) loaded with red berries.(Note : This native Charles Hardin Holley is deciduous , so the leafage drop off to showcase the berry even more dramatically through the winter . )

Swamp helianthus , Mexican heather(Salvialeucantha , zone 7–10 ) , gaura(Gauralindheimeri , Zones 5–9 ) , and pansies(Viola× wittrockiana , cool - season one-year ) .
