‘ Mesclun ’ is a term that entail a ‘ mix of young salad greens ’ in French . Last twelvemonth I make a lucre / mesclun trough inside the house while it was still stale outside . I assume the bottom from one of my pots ( you jazz so that your jackpot do n’t leak all over when you irrigate ) , cleanse it with a bleach resolution and drilled some holes in the bottom of it so pee can drain out .

Then I fill it with some moist potting filth and besprinkle some lettuce mesclun mix all over it and gently tamp down it down so the seeds make good liaison with the soil . In this first picture I sprinkled guts over the one-half of the seeds .

Then I finish sprinkling the sand over the come - just enough till they were covered .

Next I spray the guts so it became moist with a spray bottle so as not to touch the seeded player . Then I put plastic wrap over it to bind in the moisture until the bread burgeon forth . I kept it in a nerveless place in the house until it germinated and then I moved it by a windowpane .

Here is the cabbage bowl . Coming up nicely . Now if I could just keep the quat from eating it ! She fuck it ! I catch her eat it around the edges by the window . I ’ll have to thin it this hebdomad without her help ! Perhaps I ’ll have to make her a salad bowl of her own .   In another twosome of workweek it should be pretty fully grown .

Here it is ready to feed for it ’s first abbreviate in 32 days and at $ 6.99 / lb in the stores , it ’s a deal ! Harvest by the ‘ swerve and add up again ’ method and it will arise back for several cutting . To do this , simply take sharp scissors and reduce off a caboodle of leaves in the amount you need to fill your salad bowlful . Cut the leaf off at 1 to 2 in above the soil . Do n’t cut the crowns of the lucre or it wo n’t rise back . Bon Appétit !
