We all have it off that Jeff Calton ( tntreeman ) is a talker , and loves interacting with everyone here . I think that gave Annita Nguemo Aondona the courage to reach out to him , and they ’ve been gibe for a while now . Annita garden in Nigeria , and was nervous to send pic into the GPOD when she equate her work to all of your beautiful garden , but Jeff sleep together I ’d be concerned ( I ’m a gull for overseas Wiley Post ! ) , and passed along her photos and info . Annita and I finally got in touch last week , and now you get to get a glance of her amazing work in Nigeria !
Annita says,“My name is Annita Nguemo Aondona . I subsist in Makurdi , Benue Department of State Nigeria . I started garden as a hobby just a few years ago and work at a Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree nursery . I ’m particularly fond of any plant that flowers or can wreak gloss to any touch its plant . The weather condition here in Makurdi is very peculiar in that its mostly hot and humid year round with a spell of dryness around this time of the year , so it set what prime really do well . I particularly do it using container at nursing home cause they are leisurely to care for .
“ This is a mixing of photos convey at home and at work . The unripened fruit on the primer are fruit of theGmelina arboreatree , popularly known as malina . The bay window are stacked under a malina tree for the shade it provides and so we do get them in our other plants occasionally . Malina tree , though an exotic species , are very vernacular and used mainly for timber here . The untested shoot are sourced for medicative purposes . The leaves also make good cannon fodder for livestock . At the nursery we collect the seeds and inter them in small spate . They start to bourgeon after three weeks after which we transplant into polyethene pots which are then sold to primarily grove owner or used for our own afforestation projects .

“ transfer these seedling is usually a mussy occupation so what we do is if the lasting site is n’t far we rebag them in larger bags with a screening of soil to protect the root word . I have only meet seedlings in plastic pot in books and on the internet and I guess we would n’t be capable to give it anyway but I latterly planted some scented pea semen ( for the first time ) in some moldable disposable cups in my own nursery and I ’m anxious to see how they turn out …… .
“ I have three ladies who act as nursery attendants and even though they do n’t have any schematic breeding or tuition fee , they are brilliant gardener and exceptional on the job . I fundamentally learnt everything I know about plants from them . … I have always loved flowers and appreciate nature so I majored in Biology but did n’t really see myself in horticulture till a few geezerhood back and now I wondered how I managed without garden all these years . My only drawback is that I have n’t enough green field to garden in my domicile . ”
It ’s so exciting to see all of this , Annita . Your containers are beautiful , and the nursery is riveting . Please do keep sending photos . We ’d love to see more !
