Although we often ramp up many of our DIY projects from old barn wood and pallet , we thought we would try our manus with creating something from the most basic construction block used in the   construction industriousness , the 2 x 4 .

We made our harvest board a bit   on the larger size ( 10′ long ) to use for future dinner effect at the farm . However , the measurements can easily be adjust to fit any   size of it want .

Creating The 2 x 4 Farm Table

Our 2 x 4 mesa is made up of two canonical   section . A sturdy trestle groundwork , and a heavy - duty top . We make each separately , and then attached them together with ass .

We rend the 2 x 4 ‘s down on each end for a perfectly flat surface , and to make the thickness a bit less bulky .

The top is nothing more than common 2 x 4 ’s get together   together side by side . To assemble , we glued and then screwed each plank into one another .

We ripped the 2 x 4 ‘s down on each end for a perfectly flat surface, and to make the thickness a bit less bulky.

This creates the   bigger   “ butcher block ” style aerofoil of the top . It is awe-inspiring how good it look with such a dim-witted assembly .

For our 2 x 4 table , we used 10′ foresighted card to span   the entire length . You could also   use brusk lengths to produce a more random stumbler block   flavor .

Before screwing together , we ran the boards through the board saw to take about a   one-half inch off each side . This made each side perfectly even and smooth .

you could use the display panel as is if you wish a clayey look .   For us , the 2 and 1/2 inch finished heaviness was perfect .

Once the boards were cut , we simply glue and have a go at it each piece together until the big top was formed . To set up , we   put a piece of ass in about every 8 in down each control board .

One word of advice , spend a little clip in the lumber pace selecting the straightest plug-in you could find ! It goes a   long direction towards making it easier .

Creating The Base

For this table , we choose to build a consecutive leg fundament with two angle trestle side .

2 x 4 farm table

We used old 2 x 4 ’s we had on script   to meet our big farm tables already in the barn .

Not only is extremely stiff , it gives a cracking rustic feel . It ’s also perfect for bench seating room .

If   building as a kitchen table , I think we would have opted to apply   our 2 x 4 tenner vogue braces we used in our DIY   desk project a few old age back .

We love the butcher block style of the top – and it’s durability!

That would allow for plenty of room   for chairs to skid under for seating .

Either agency – they can both be made with elementary 2 x 4 ’s .

We love the fuckup block fashion of the top – and it ’s enduringness !

Although you could result the top with the saw marks for a straight rustic look ,   we sanded opt to sand for a smooth refinement .

To finish , we applied two coats of stain , postdate by 3 coats of acrylic resin sealer . And with that the 2 x 4 tabular array was complete .

Depending on the ruined size , the total tabular array can be establish for $ 80 or less .

Our 10′ table ended up cost about $ 77 in material .   And yes , we will have all over step by step plans for the farm mesa up in ourOWG Etsyshop   later this twelvemonth .
