Carnivorous plants bring beauty and danger
Today we ’re conduct one last slip to the beautiful gardens of Heronswood ( check outthe first post in the seriesfor more on this iconic garden ) with a terminal set of photos from Cherry Ong . Today the focus is on the peat bog garden , which is full of beautiful pitcher plants — one of Cherry ’s favourite !
The bog garden surrounds a minor pond and is plant with a variety of moisture - get laid plants , but most colorful are thepitcher plants(Sarraceniaspp . and hybrids ) .

Insects are lured in by the bright colors and ambrosia produced along the top of the tube . When they go to drink the nectar , the pillowcase down into the tube , fall into liquid state at the base , and are put up to providefertilizer for the plant .
It is no good fortune that the leaves of pitcher plants are as smart as any flower . Just like the petals of flowers , these leaves are signals to entice in insects .
